Tips for partying smart this festival season:

Summer brings stacks of happening festivals all across the country. Have the best time ever by partying smart. Here's how to have fun this festival season, minus any hospital visits or run-ins with the law:

  1. Do alternate each alcoholic drink with a water or soft drink. Not only does this give you a chance to keep your alcohol intake under control, you'll also keep hydrated as you groove in the sun.
  2. Don't forget to eat: drinking on an empty stomach only means you'll get drunker faster. There's usually heaps of food on offer within the festival grounds, so seek it out and eat up before downing your first bevvie.
  3. Do count your drinks as standard drinks, remembering that some RTDs and beers contain 1.5 standard drinks or more (which means 2 drinks could actually add more than three drinks to your tally).
  4. Do keep track of your friends, especially if one of them overdoes it and ends up drunk. Seek out the medical tent at the festival to check they are OK - after all, overdosing on alcohol can be fatal.
  5. Don't get drunk and behave like a tosser. Drinking to excess can make you do stupid things like getting in a car with someone who’s tanked (or driving yourself), having unsafe sex, getting into a punch-up, or losing your wallet, phone or keys.
