Celebrate Chinese New Year

Celebrate Chinese New Year

The Chinese believe you should eat ‘lucky’ foods to bring on a prosperous new year, and clean your house to sweep out the bad luck from last year ... sounds to us like getting ready for a dinner party!

  • 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, and across Australia, all kinds of events will be held to celebrate Chinese New Year. In Sydney, for example, there will be an official festival with Markets, a Twilight Parade and Dragon Boat Races (find out more here). In Melbourne, celebrations will be held in Chinatown, including cultural activities, Chinese opera, karaoke competitions, food stalls, dragon parades and children’s events (find out more here). Great family fun!
  • Head to an event, or celebrate at home by having a pot luck dinner party where guests each bring a dish - perhaps inspired by Chinese flavours or the colour red. Click here for some fabulous Chinese-inspired recipes and get into the spirit! Check out our range of Chinese New Year invites too.
