Wedding theme inspiration: Retro

The dress: Retro brides might consider a 1920s flapper-style dress in a fabric such as georgette, featuring stunning beading; a short 1950s frock with a high waist and circle skirt; or be inspired by Bianca Jagger who married Mick in a broad-brimmed hat and sexy white suit with plunging neckline in 1971.

The flowers:
If you think you can pull it off (and if you dare!), find a creative florist who can reinterpret retro blooms like carnations and baby’s breath – and make them cool again! A 1920s theme calls for a cascading bouquet – during that era, brides typically carried enormous bouquets with a variety of blooms and trailing foliage.
-
The cars:
Choose a car to suit the era you have chosen – from red or white open-top Cadillacs and Mustangs, to black London cabs, or Buicks from the 1920s and ‘30s. You could even transport your guests from ceremony location to reception in an old-fashioned red London bus!
-
The cake:
Incorporate a retro theme into your cake through the decoration. Perhaps polka-dot icing to go with a cute ‘50s theme, while a black-and-white Art Deco icing design could work well with a vintage-inspired day. Or serve retro desserts (think chocolate mousse or crème brulee) in lieu of an actual cake.
