This party season the streets have been speckled with frocked-up party-goers as fancy dress parties make a bit of a come-back.

Playing dress-ups is the perfect way to get your clan into the festive mood, and outfits don’t have to cost a bomb. Be imaginative and look for a lateral take on the theme.

Yep, costume parties aren’t just for the kids. The best way to make sure your guests get into the idea is to give the event a theme (not just plain ‘fancy dress’). Guests could come as something starting with a particular letter you choose (e.g. to a ‘P party’, they could dress as a pimp or a princess!); or pay tribute to a favourite decade with, say, a ‘60s party where everyone turns up in flower power gear. Peace, man!
