Hosting A Party On A Budget!

Hosting A Party On A Budget!

For many, hosting a children's party can be a financially daunting task. The great news is that kids don't know or care what things cost, so with a little organisation and some clever planning, it's easy to host a successful party on a shoestring.

Choose A Cost-Effective Venue
The first step is to nominate a venue which doesn't burn a hole in your pocket. If you're able to host a party at home, do so. A local park or playground will serve the same purpose, and ensure a pleasant environment without the cost.

Keep It Small
Keep numbers to a minimum. Smaller parties can be more successful for many reasons (improved control, greater participation, and less to provide), so don't be afraid to keep parties short and sweet - a couple of fun hours is plenty, and will ensure a good time is had by all.

Consider A Joint Party
If your child has a close friend with a birthday at a similar time, a joint party can also be a cost-effective way of pooling resources.

Budget-Friendly Food
Be organised when it comes to catering for your child's party. Plenty of dishes can be prepared at home and frozen in advance (when produce is in season or on special). Keep the menu simple - sandwiches and easy nibbles are always hits, and ask close friends and family to bring a plate, where appropriate.

Organise Own Games
If you're organised with a few games up your sleeve (check out our Games section for more info), there is no need to pay for outside entertainment. Ask a friend or relative to help oversee games with you, to ensure things are well-coordinated on the day.

Hire toys from a toy library, or borrow from friends. A dress-up box can provide hours of delight for little ones, or simple games with a bat and ball can provide free entertainment on a sunny day.

Cake Solutions
A cake need not be bought. Bake a cake, or buy a sponge from the supermarket. Whip up some simple icing, add a few decorations, and you'll have an impressive and tasty sweet treat the little ones will enjoy devouring.

Finally, plan ahead and hit the sales. If you have a party to host in the next few months, there is no harm in visiting your local department store during promotions to stock up on party prizes, presents for your child, and of course presents for other children whose parties your child will be attending. By buying a selection of age-appropriate presents in advance, you'll have plenty of great options in the present drawer, without having to pay full price at the last minute.
