Who doesn’t love a drink or two around the silly season? Champers, beers, cocktails, shots, RTD’s … Hey, there are stacks of ways to celebrate! With Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve all coming up, the end of the year signals one big party. Yee ha!

We know that it can be easy to lose control of your drinking when you’re having so much fun. But the consequences of getting drunk are nasty and can be extremely dangerous. We don’t want you to be a victim of your own binge drinking rampage, so here’s how to stay safe when alcohol is part of your partying…
-
If you follow a few basic guidelines, you can have your drinks, stay safe and party until you’re all partied out (if that’s possible):
-
DO:
- Have a proper meal before you head out, or while you are drinking – encourage your mates to meet at a restaurant for a yummy dinner before heading to a bar.
- Know your limits and stick to them, and count drinks correctly as standard drinks (e.g. a glass of wine or an RTD can equal 1.5 drinks and a stubby actually equals 1.5 drinks).
- Have a softie or a water in between each alcoholic bevvie.
-
DON'T:
- Drink so much that you do something stupid like drive a vehicle or go in a car with someone who’s drunk; have unsafe sex and expose yourself to STIs; or end up in hospital or at the cop shop after a punch-up.
- Drink more than 4 standard drinks in a sitting.
- Feel pressured into playing drinking games or being part of a shout – you’ll just end up drinking more than you actually want to or should.
