The dress: Throw out the rule book – who says you have to get married in ivory? Wear a dress in whatever colour and style you think best reflects your personality – wow your guests in red, or choose a dress by a funky designer with an amazing print.

• The flowers: Ignore tradition and choose blooms that are fun – think bright gerberas, sunny frangipanis, or pink lilies, and even talk to your florist about including unusual items like striking red berries, tortured willow or dodder vine.
• The cars: The latest model of BMW or Mercedes cars will suit a very modern wedding party – white or black, sedans or limos, convertible or with a sun-roof to pop through and wave to your guests!
• The cake: Anything goes – how about several layers, all with a different flavour. Think chocolate mud, hazelnut torte, cheesecake or ice-cream cake. Have fun with bright or contrasting coloured icing, a quirky cake shape such as a heart, or whimsical decorations (e.g. butterflies or a cartoony bride-and-groom figurine).
