Disco Fever

If there's one thing girls love to do at parties it's dance and sing! A Disco party provides the perfect opportunity to move and groove.
Disco parties are becoming more and more popular with the younger generation. With the recent popularity of High School Musical 1, 2 and 3 we can all be assured that they'll be around for a very long time. Traditional Disco parties always have music, dance and costumes from the 1970's. This means lots of colour, high energy music, glitter balls and lava lamps.
You could hold a disco party indoors or outside at anytime, but to get the full effect of the lighting, a Disco party would be best suited for the afternoon or evening. Have a few lounges with funky throw rugs or beanbags positioned around to room to create a comfortable place for guests to sit and relax. You could also set up a bar, with a few vinyl stools around it.
Clever Costuming
Think flairs, bright colours and lycra. Invite guests to wear their grooviest disco dance clothes. Upon arrival, provide your guests with a sparkly sequined or paisley headband and cheap oversized plastic sunglasses to help authenticate your theme.
Menu Munchies
Include a fruit punch and cordial cocktails to serve at your bar. Popcorn, chips and dips were popular in the 70's and can be positioned around the room, with hamburgers, hotdogs and pizza for a more filling meal. Finish the party with a disco ball cake and chocolate fondue for your guests to dip into.
Gratifying Games
When it comes to games, nothing beats a dance off. This can be structured so all children get a chance to dance and decide on a winner. Alternatively, teams could be formed to perform a group dance to a disco classic. Use a broom stick to play limbo and don't forget to include some action songs like "The Bus Stop" "The Time Warp", "Grease Mega Mix" "YMCA" and "Blame it on the Boggie" to your playlist. Last of all, what would a disco party be without karaoke?
Fancy a Favour?
Why not include glow sticks or glitter ball key chains as party favours? You could also create a CD of all the groovy tunes from the party and pop this into a bag with lifesavers and milkshake lollies.
Party Pointers
Make sure you have enough room for a dance floor. Try and find a space where a square (no smaller than 3x3m depending on the number and size of children attending) can be mapped out. Coloured lighting, glitter balls and a smoke machine would help create an energy packed atmosphere.
