You’ve been planning your big do for weeks, and after all that effort, the big day is almost here. Hooray! And while you’ve probably channelled umpteen hours into organising your special occasion – from decorations to food to music and the right mix of guests – you may not have planned your personal ‘party look’ yet. Don’t panic … Here’s a must-do cheat sheet to look your best!

• The week before the party

  *Decide on your party outfit: You’re the host, so it’s nice to wear something special to set the tone for a fun, memorable night. Dry-clean any garments that need it, and ensure you have all your accessories sorted. Also get a stylish apron to wear when you’re in the kitchen so you don’t mess up your outfit.

• The day before the party

  *Get your nails done: Either set aside time at home to do a DIY manicure, or head to the beautician and get your nails buffed and painted in a polish colour that will complement your outfit. It’s important for your hands to be nicely groomed – they’ll be on display when you hand around trays of party food and clink glasses with your friends.

• The day of the party

  Book in for a blowdry: Having your hair done on the morning of the party is a nice treat that will make you look extra-stylish for your big night. Just make sure that your pre-party shower is tepid – not boiling hot – to avoid the steam turning your blowdry into a frizzy mess.

• Two hours before the party

  Time for the final touches: Now you just need to shower, dress, and do your make-up (apart from your lipstick application). You’re going to be up close and personal when you kiss hello to your guests, so the last grooming task to complete your look is brushing your pearly whites. As party host, you want to have fresh breath and a sparkly smile – with no green bits from your canapé preparation! Finally, slick on your lip gloss, pour the champagne and host your party with pride, knowing you look your very best.
