There’s nothing like dressing up for a tea party to get little girls excited, but hosting a tea party for wee ones can also be a smart and fun entertaining option for you.
-
Get them involved in the preparation
Whilst some of the preparation is best left for the initiated, getting your little one involved in the party preparation can not only be helpful, but also a great way of enriching the experience for them. It also gives them the chance to learn more skills and be creative!
-
Make flower arrangements together
Grab some flowers from the garden (or a friendly neighbours). Using old gift boxes you have at home (you can also purchase these from your local bargain shop for next to nix), line the gift boxes with aluminium foil or glad wrap to make them waterproof. Place a small florist sponge (also readily available at bargain shops and stores like Spotlight & Lincraft) into the base and simply poke your flowers into the sponge. Carefully add some water to the sponge. Let the kids create and design their own arrangements and decorate the boxes with ribbons that match your overall colour scheme. These make beautiful table decorations and gifts for your guests to take home.

Dainty Decorations
You’re not short of options when it comes to decorating for a tea party. Pretty coloured balloons, flowers, ribbons, bunting and fun floral, spotted or check fabrics will all help bring this little event to life!
-
A great game – “Design-a-doily”
All you need are white paper doilies for each guest, coloured textas, paints, crayons, glitter, glue and stickers. Use the doilies as placemats until it’s time to play, then invite your guests to design their own doily. They can write and decorate with their name, favourite animals, favourite book characters – let their imagination run wild. They’ll be thrilled to take their masterpieces home in a goodie bag.
-
Tea time treats
Petite servings of finger food work well with this theme, but that doesn’t have to mean hard work! Here are some of our favourite tea party treats:
The best cupcake recipe ever
Chicken pistachio and mayo sandwiches (tip: leave out the pistachio in case of nut allergies)
Summer fruit kebabs
Party wraps
Brew some fruity ice tea to complete the spread!
