Groom’s guide to getting married

Groom’s guide to getting married

It’s fair to say that in most cases, the bride-to-be puts in the majority of the elbow grease when it comes to planning the big day. So what does the Groom actually need to do in preparation for the wedding? The truth is, there’s no hard and fast rules when it comes to who is responsible for what, but if you use our handy guide below as a starting point, delegating some of the tasks to your other half can become a lot easier (and you can get on with your list of things to do!).

  • Help your groom to get sorted by discussing the list below:
  • GROOMS RESPONSIBILTIES

    1. Organise the honeymoon (C’mon – you have enough to organise and you can thoroughly brief him if you’re nervous about his choices)
    2. Pay for the engagement and wedding rings
    3. Organise the wedding cars and transport
    4. Make a speech at the reception
    5. Organise the music/band for the reception
    6. Co-ordinate the MC
    7. Choose gifts for the best man, groomsmen and ushers
    8. Ensure the best man and groomsmen understand their responsibilities
  • BEST MAN’S RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Organise the… gulp… buck’s night
    2. Make a speech at the reception
    3. Ensure the groom gets to the church on time
    4. Organise a gift for the groom from the grooms party
    5. Keep the wedding rings safe and present them at the ceremony
    6. Act as an official witness of required
    7. Co-ordinate the other groomsmen where required
  • Deciding on the responsibilities in the lead up to the wedding is completely up to you and your partner, so it’s great to talk through these things early on. It’s also important to let your Groom know that you’d like him to be involved and enjoy the lead up to the special day. Giving him ownership of some of the key tasks can be a great way to do this.
  • Have you sent a Save The Date to your wedding yet? Sending an e-invite is the perfect way to ensure your guests put the date aside. Stylish and free!
