How to host a Bollywood party

There’s nothing quite like the vibrancy of a Bollywood or Indian inspired party theme. The extravagantly produced movies of Bollywood provide the perfect backdrop for a memorable, magical and musical party – even the most timid of guests will find it hard to resist being part of your Bollywood spectacular if you follow some of the tips below.
-
Bollywood Party Decorations
Set the scene for your party by decorating your space with beautiful coloured fabrics. If you’re prepared to hunt around, Indian sari style fabrics can be found at reasonable prices – go for vibrant fuchsias and pinks, emerald and aqua greens and burnt oranges and reds – mix and match as you like. Drape fabrics over tables, sofas, around windows and you’ll start to see your magical backdrop come to life.
-
Keep the lighting dim. Use floating candles
in little bowls around the room and scatter cushions on the floor to create
little ‘chill out’ spaces where your guests can comfortably congregate. Burn
some of your favourite incense.
-
Hang some gorgeous Fleur
Poms for that extra special touch. Alternatively, paper
lanterns in reds, pinks, oranges and aquas will look magical.
-
With a backdrop of colour you can keep your tableware pretty
simple. Black
or silver
will work beautifully. This theme also calls for silverware – so bring
out your best silver tableware in true Indian party style.
-
These star
candles have a great Bollywood vibe and can be used on cupcakes or your
birthday cake.

Bollywood Party Menu Ideas
You’ve got a choice of some fantastic nibbles and canapés with
this theme. Consider things like samosas,
pappadums with mint dip and a selection of chutneys and tandoori chicken, lamb
or prawn skewers. You could even whip up some tandoori pizzas which will surely
be a huge hit. Most of these foods can be pre-made and easily heated when
guests arrive.
-
If you’re planning a sit down meal, here’s a menu
plan with a few Indian favourites.
-
Mango
Lassi is also a wonderful addition to your party menu plan. This drink can
be mixed with vodka to create a Mango lassi-cocktail. We’ve found some more Bollywood cocktail
ideas here!
-
Bollywood Party Fun & Games
Why not welcome your guests into your Bollywood experience by asking them to remove their shoes and greet them with a cool and refreshing mango lassi in a small shot glass as well as their very own bindi sticker or henna tattoo. You can scatter these around the room to give your guests something to do while the party warms up
-
Load up your iPod with songs from Bend It Like Beckham, Slum Dog Millionaire and as many Bollywood hits as you can find. Rent some Bollywood movies and keep these running throughout the party to inspire your guests to try some of the cheesy moves.
-
Clever costuming
You can keep things simple with this theme and let the venue shine, or you can invite your guests to embrace it – this is such a fun party theme and when all dressed up you’ll find your party will go to a whole new level as your guests adopt their Bollywood persona for the evening.
